A Fun Day at the NYC Math Fest

I had a great time at the NYC Math Festival this past weekend. Hosted by one of my favorite places in the city, the National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath), we enjoyed a fun-filled day of magic tricks, origami lessons, juggling acts, and, of course, robots.

Magic

Card tricks, disappearing knots, an invisible ball… the list goes on. Tanya and Tim Chartier were so cool, and taught us a lot of really fun math-related magic.

Origami

MoMath has some cool online origami programs, like Folding Fridays, but it was fun to try in person.

Juggling

I unfortunately missed most of John Chase’s juggling act, but from what I saw, it was a crowd favorite.

Robots

Students from Stuyvesant High School demonstrated their robot.

There were many other activities, like puzzles, brain-teasers, and a number line that I mistook for hopscotch, but I didn’t get to see them all. Maybe next time.
