I’ve been jumping into a lot of beach reads lately. Here are some of my favorites.
Someone We Know
I love a good whodunit. Set in upstate NY, a rebellious teenager spies on the neighbors, for fun, but then accidentally stumbles on a murder mystery in SOMEONE WE KNOW. This was my first Shari Lapena book, and I really like her style, so I put her other books on my list too.
Disappearance at Devil’s Rock
After reading A HEAD FULL OF GHOSTS, and THE CABIN AT THE END OF THE WORLD, which were both awesome, I finally got around to DISAPPEARANCE AT DEVIL’S ROCK. I enjoy horror stories, and Paul Tremblay does a great job of creating a creepy vibe, while also tying in other themes as well, like complex family dynamics and social issues.
The Uninhabitable Earth: Life After Warming
My book club suggested this one, and I’m really glad they did, because I learned a lot. THE UNINHABITABLE EARTH: LIFE AFTER WARMING by David Wallace-Wells can feel pretty depressing, but I think it’s an important read.
The Last Flight
Two women, both escaping their past, switched identities in order to find safety. At first they thought they were safe, but then things got much worse. I enjoyed Julia Clark’s writing, and I couldn’t put THE LAST FLIGHT down.
Hush
I normally don’t like fantasy books, but I’m glad that I read HUSH by Dylan Farrow. A disease called blight affects a small town, and Bards use their magic to maintain balance over the land. When Shae’s mother is murdered, she decides to take justice into her own hands, uncovering secrets and corruption along the way. I think part 2 comes out next year.
I’m always looking for more books to read. I especially like horror, murder mysteries, and history, but I’m open to trying new genres too. Let me know what you’re reading.
