I Went Bird Watching for the First Time

After thinking about it for a while, I finally went bird watching. I brought my camera, two lenses, and some filters.

I mostly used the telescopic lens to zoom in close without disturbing them. I learned a few tips online about blending in with the environment. Some people bring blankets, or wear camouflage, but since it was my first time, I hid quietly behind trees.

Here are some of my first photos. I used a polarizing filter, but I don’t think I used it properly. I also relied on the camera’s automatic features, like autofocus, iso, etc.

There were some birds in the tree above, but I was too far away, so it’s hard to see. I also didn’t like how dark the photo came out. I switched lenses at this point.

I only used a UV filter for the next two photos. Also, I put the camera into sports mode. It’s blurry, but I’m happy to catch this one mid-flight.

I like how bright these are. I’m not sure if it’s due to the lens, filter, my position, or chance.

This was my last photo, and it happened pretty fast. I wish I had time to switch to my other lens, in order to zoom in closer.

Bird watching made me realize that I need to get a better handle on my camera. I still need to learn more about lenses, filters, and some manual functions, rather than relying on automatic features.

I also have a lens hood, but didn’t use it, so one nice photo was ruined by some flare. I’m going to take everything I learned and try again.
